1. System cost

Robot arm + EOAT + integration + programming. See cobot cost guide for help estimating.
Service contract, EOAT wear parts, programming updates. Typical: $3,000–$10,000/year.

2. Labour saved

Include wages, benefits, payroll taxes, and any overhead allocation. Typical US manufacturing: $35–$65/hour.
Hours the robot replaces per shift. For machine tending, subtract changeover and supervision time the operator still performs.
Typical: 250 (5-day week) to 300 (6-day week).

3. Quality and throughput gains (optional)

If the robot improves consistency and reduces rejects. Leave at 0 if unknown — labour saving alone is usually sufficient for the ROI case.
Additional revenue from higher output if the robot increases machine utilisation. Leave at 0 if capacity is not a current constraint.

How this calculator works

Annual labour saving = Hours freed per shift × Shifts per day × Working days × Hourly rate
Annual net saving = Labour saving + Scrap saving + Throughput gain − Annual maintenance cost
Payback period = Total installed cost ÷ Annual net saving
N-year net return = (Annual net saving × N) − Total installed cost

This calculator does not account for tax credits, depreciation schedules, financing costs, or residual robot value. For a more detailed analysis, see the worked example with a full discounted cash flow. All calculations run in your browser — no data is sent to any server.
